Evidence of learning occurs at fundamentally three levels: drill and practice, rehearsal and scrimmage, and then there is the authentic demonstration of learning.  In a sport like soccer we see it clearly; individual drill of the field, running plays, followed by the game.  If we don't see the student as an actual player in an authentic situation, we really don't know how they will fare.   What is more, learners are not motivated by being held back my drill and rehearsal.  The game motivates them.    But, what about mathematics, history, science, world language, literature?  How can we design periodic authentic assessments that motivate learners and provide them feedback on how they are growing?  Dr. Jacobs will guide through a lively and productive design workshop on how to take any subject at any age and craft periodic quality authentic assessment demonstrations.
