What would happen to the efficacy and determination of each and every student if the primary, required imperative of schools was to “gift” ALL students with practices that pushed them to the “frontier of their intelligence”, engaged their strengths and optimized their innate potential for high intellectual performances, self-determination and personal contribution? Their propensity for excellence would be manifested!  Such an imperative is what actualizes “equity consciousness”.
In this keynote, Yvette Jackson presents the cognitive and neuroscience presented in her book, Pedagogy of Confidence: Inspiring High Intellectual Performance in Urban Schools that substantiates the theory behind “equity consciousness” that explains that when ALL students (especially students of color) are in Communities of Belonging in which they feel they can affiliate; are “gift-ed” with High Operational Practices™ that reflect belief and value in their potential, elicit their strengths, mediate their intelligence, engage their cultural frames of reference and provide the conduit for authentic voice in their learning, they are inspired for self-directed learning, investment in high achievement, personal agency and self-actualization.
